need to tell a story

For health coaching… Tell personal story about a guy. Led normal life didn’t think much about his decisions (paint slippery subtle decline (the indicators were there less capable, less active that’s a part of aging right? The thought of being unhealthy looked like 10-15 lbs overweight but still happy and living the same life. That’s not how it plays out. When we make decisions that negatively impact our health the consequences accumulate over time. By the time you are diagnosed with a chronic illness it has been developing for 10-20 years. Fictional guy got diabetes…? or other. dementia, heart issues. ortho issues so now can’t exercise. trapped Message = intervene now. Don’t allow your mind to rationalize it away. Nothing is more important than taking action on your health right now. This isn’t even a plea to take my coaching rather a plea for everyone to do something for themselves and to inspire each other to wake up and take responsibility for our choices and take action to do one thing today to make a step towards being healthier. Sometimes that first step is difficult but it is also the most important because it symbolizes not staying where you are at (and not moving backwards. you are making a conscious choice to start your journey and move towards a healthier version fo you. Even your faith relies on feeling well..

Add some catchy or sincere title here “Do not skip this section”, Truth is… Embrace your story, your mistakes” I’ll embrace my story if you embrace yours”

This is where it gets uncomfortably candid. This is where I make myself vulnerable by laying out the truth about my own life in an effort to make sure that you can better decide that I would be the right coach for you. You see, I am at a point in life where I choose not to spend energy on portraying an image of a guy who has it all together. The guy that has it all figured it out. The truth is that I am still figuring it out and by my best estimates I will spend the rest of my days still trying to figure it out. I am riddled with many imperfections and have made a lifetime full of mistakes. However, rather than hide those truths and those mistakes, I feel it is important to share them so you can better appreciate what brought me to this point. I value trust and truth and believe that they are the foundation of any good relationship so let’s get real. I am not here to impress people, I am here to help people and that does not happen without trust.

The reason I am even in a position to help others is because of my mistakes. Think about it… would you work with a coach who either was perfect or thought they were? Either way their knowledge would be of limited value because they didn’t have the value of having made mistakes, learned from them and gotten better. I have no desire to come across as the brilliant guy who has successfully navigated life without flaw and wants to show you how to do the same. I am the opposite and hope to come off as just a guy who had the luxury of a life filled with mistakes and lessons, but turned those mistakes and lessons in to wisdom. It’s important for me to embrace my flawed and imperfect history for without them I would not have had to cultivate the wisdom that I have. I want this website to shout out “Look at what I have learned through my mistakes and imperfections that can help you and make your journey easier.” Here is a handful of the many things that I struggled with but now have collected wisdom to share.

  1. I failed many times at implementing good habits and eliminating bad ones so I spent years researching the science of habits and applying those principles through trial and error in my own life. The result is a deep understanding of how habits work, and a well honed process for successfully implementing them in your life.

  2. I struggled with change so I taught myself the principles of positive psychology, the power of drawing from your identity and the role it has in change, and dove deep into scripture to understand the truths involved in change. Additionally I spent a year becoming a certified Functional Medicine Coach. This powerful combination of personal experience and formal training now allows me to help you implement sustainable changes in your life.

  3. I overvalued self reliance to the point that it became a liability instead of an asset. I learned that asking for help isn’t a failure on my part rather it is an acknowledgement and humbling of yourself to the truth that we are created to help each other. The ability to help others is inherently reliant on someone needing help and embraces the beautiful cycle and pattern of life that God created.

  4. I struggled to identify the root causes of some of my stress and anxiety before I understood that much of the stress I carried was rooted in the disconnect between my vision for my life and my actions. It took time to be able to see how my actions were not aligned with my beliefs and to slowly change change my behaviors and habits to align what I do with what I believe.

  5. I had a low awareness of the truths in my life and did not value seeking truth. I now prioritize seeking truth, understanding it deeply, applying it to my own life and then sharing it with others.

  6. I had lots of knowledge but little wisdom and didn’t really discern the difference between the two. My love for learning resulted in the consumption of thousands of hours of podcasts and videos, plus a mountain of books. Yet I hadn’t taken the time to really know it apply it to my own life in a way that serves me on my journey. I have now developed a process for taking useful ideas and concepts and really simplifying them down to their most basic levels so that we can better understand those truths and ultimately apply them to our daily lives. I learned that wisdom isn’t the accumulation of knowledge, it is the application of truth.

  7. I was always hurried. To be honest, I still have to maintain a high level of awareness in an attempt to eliminate hurry from my life. I spent a lifetime valuing time and saw it as priceless when others saw it as free. I still believe we need a healthy perspective on time and am reminded of Psalm 90:12 “Teach us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” However I always took it to an unhealthy extreme and it was a constant source of stress in my life. I am still learning to eliminate hurry but now have a deep desire to live life at the peaceful unhurried pace that we were created for.

  8. I was often operating at a subconscious level with low intention to my actions and letting the flow of the day and life dictate to me. I have now cultivated a high awareness and am much better at being intentional with my thoughts, my words and my actions. The impact on my life of just being intentional cannot be overstated and the result is a life that more closely resembles the one that I want. The one that I envision.

  9. I was not strong at taking action. I spent too much time overthinking and over researching the right answer (and may have even subconsciously used that as an excuse for not taking action). I now place a high value on taking action and understand the old adage to be true “The most important step is the first one”. There is so much momentum in just getting yourself to start even when you don’t fully know where you will end up. Its the very reason I am here today.

  10. I wasn’t grateful enough. I do think I’ve always been generally more grateful than others but didn’t realize how empowering a real grateful heart is and how poisonous an ungrateful attitude can be. I have spent the last 5 years cultivating gratitude in my life and the lives of those around me and can say with certainty that gratitude changes the very lens through which you look at life. I have been humbled by spending time with others who have nothing yet radiate with a heart that reflects their gratitude for the simplest of things. It has reminded me how well off we are and the abundance of blessings in each of our lives if only we can help each other to see them. It is powerful and it is life changing.
